I have thoroughly enjoyed watching blog posts as of late highlighting the many varieties of sweet potato fries. Two wonderful blogs You Made That? and Sweet Basil Kitchen have both recently posted great recipes for these yummy treats.
Of note… You Made That? uses sweet seasoning (what a great idea – I tend to go savory on mine, but I’m soon to try the powdered sugar route). Sweet Basil Kitchen uses a shaking-in-a-bag technique for seasoning the potatoes. I had a “why didn’t I think of that” moment as I read her blog. Thanks, ladies for your delicious blogs and tasty ideas.
Here’s my version of Sweet Potato Fries (baked). The biggest difference is that I blanch the potatoes prior to baking.
Anyone else making these enticing potatoes?
BAKED SWEET POTATO FRIES
Ingredients
sweet potatoes
olive oil
salt and pepper
cayenne (optional)
cinnamon (optional)
Slice sweet potatoes into long, thin strips.
Blanch potatoes in salted water for 2 – 3 minutes. Immediately transfer to a cold water bath.
Spread potatoes onto an unlined baking sheet. Drizzle with a little bit of olive oil, then season with sea salt and fresh ground pepper, cayenne, or your favorite taste.
Bake in a 450 degree oven for 25-30 minutes. I check them at 10, 20, 25 and 30 minutes and either give the pan a little shake or run a wooden spoon through them so that they don’t stick. Bake until they begin to get crunchy. Serve hot.
~Enjoy!
