This year for MELG's (my 7 year old daughter) school lunches I wanted to try something different. While surfing the internet for lunch ideas I came across a marvelous website called Just Bento. Little did I know, but soon I was to discover, that this site is just the tip of the iceberg. There are dozens of quality websites with Bento ideas, plus hundreds of photos via Flikr.
School ideas and lists of kid friendly options are widely available and are a big help to deciding what to put in the bento for variety, good taste, balanced nutrition and a beautiful presentation.
This bento contains the following:
onigiri with masago
babybel cheese
2 whole grain crackers
mini teddy grahams
carrots
yogurt covered pretzels
mini-peanut butter sandwiches cut in shapes
MELG especially enjoys eating with chopsticks and having been able to find some disposable ones very, very inexpensively it's nice to be able to put them in there for her.
A couple of goals: to completely eliminate use of zipper sandwich bags, and to encourage MELG to eat green foods and deep colored berries.
No matter whether serving toast and eggs or a 7 course meal, presentation makes all the difference; Bento lunches affirm this.
