A Rice Cooker

Some time ago my mother brought a rice cooker into our home. Really, Mom, a rice cooker? Afsani taught us how to make rice on the stove top with a diaper to slowly absorb the moisture.  

I stand corrected and everyone may now commence with "I told you so."

 

 

 

 

Originally I used it because the pan I generally make rice in was going to be used for something else at that meal, plus it's incredibly hot and I'm looking for anything to make the kitchen cooler.  The first batch of rice (long grain) was good -- a bit al dente, but later I realize it's because I didn't let it steam long enough.

Then, reading a bit about making Japanese short grain rice which strongly suggests a cooker, I try again.  Rice bliss!  I'm hooked.

Now then, how long will it be before I find the need to have something that cooks a larger quantity of rice and holds it at warm for a longer time without drying out the bottom?  I've already begun to look for more information about what to look for in a cooker.  Ironically, the new widget from Wowzio I've installed in the margin which shows a delightful slideshow of the photos on this blog has a developing Insight System that evaluates products including... yes, RICE COOKERS.  They've a clever system for picking up reviews and synthesizing them.  Thanks Wowzio -- for the widget and for the insights.
