Having become a fan of the Japanese website J-List where we’ve ordered bento boxes and supplies we decided to try a few Japanese “snacks.” Our box came from Japan today and along with a new bento box for me, a set of chopsticks that match MELG’s cat bento, two sets of cooking chopsticks, and an assortment of furikake we received the Wasabi Doritos.
Peeking into the bag I wasn’t entirely surprised to find more packed air than packed chips – ah, but it’s a snack bag, right? The chips themselves are thicker and crispier than the standard American Doritos which was pleasing. The wasabi flavor is dusted on the exterior of the chip and doesn’t leave orange (or green for that matter) dust on the fingers.
The verdict: DECLICIOUS! In the first bite I noticed the crispness, the whole grain construction and a little dust of flavor on the chip. In the next nano-second my lips began to burn – Wasabi!! Bite two: more lip burn, the flavor of the wasabi fills my mouth, and then a little tongue burn. Sensorial!
